As a child I was bullied, a lot, but almost never in the winter. For the first three years of my school life it seemed like that was simply because they were too busy playing in the snow, or wanted to be extra good for Santa, to bother me. In grade three, that perception changed when my bullies, of all people, asked me to play with them...

---

It was not the first snowfall of the season, but it was a big one. Since this city didn't have snow days Jack was always a bit disappointed, but the build up of snow always made recess that much better for the children.

As Jack Frost was flying over an older school with a bell tower he noticed kids running out to play in the snow, some of them were carrying sleds and running at full speed towards a hill, tripping in the deep snow, others started a snowball fight, only to get in trouble with the teachers.

"Come on, let the kids have some fun" He said when he saw the teachers broke up the fight and said anyone that threw one more snowball would have to go inside.

It had been a few years since he became a guardian and more kids believed in him every year, but most still just passed right by or through him, and the ones that could see him were usually too busy playing to care.

As Jack watched the kids playing, he saw one little girl dashing to avoid getting noticed by the other kids at all and hide in a small, relatively closed off area. Becoming curious he followed the girl and watched her sit in the snow and pull out a book.

She was an average looking girl, with straight brown hair and brown eyes. She looked to be about 8 or 9, but the book she was reading was clearly meant for older kids.

"You're going to sit in this corner and read a book, in the snow, while everyone else plays?" Jack said to himself as he leaned against his staff.

The girl looked up, clearly shocked to see someone. Jack was a bit surprised too, but held back his excitement from finding another person that believed in him. "Y-Yeah, so what? The other kids are mean, why would I want to play with them" she said, looking Jack up and down.

"Well, why not grab a sled like those other kids and go on the hill?"

"I wanted to, but was too slow to grab one" The girl paused, "Shouldn't you be in school or something? You look like your my sisters age. And why aren't you wearing any shoes!? It's freezing out here!" The girl was staring at Jacks bare feet.

"I don't need shoes, and I haven't been to school in years." Jack said with a smirk, "So, you don't even want to build a snowman or a fort or something?"

"Everyone needs shoes" The girl mumbled and grabbed a clump of snow, "It's not the right kind of snow to make snowmen with" she tried to press the clump into a ball but it just fell apart, "See?"

Jack knelt done and grabbed his own handful of snow, "Didn't think of that when I made it fall" He muttered to himself, but the girl had heard him and got up.

"Ok, so you are just crazy, I thought so." She walked out of the area and started towards the nearest teacher.

"I'm not crazy, I did make it snow" Jack said with a shrug "I am Jack Frost after all" The sentence had the desired effect of making the girl turn around.

"Prove it." She said as she crossed her arms.

With a shrug Jack walked over to a window and tapped his staff against it, causing beautiful frost to creep along the surface, "Good enough? So, you know who I am, now what's your name?"

The girl stared at the window for a second before looking back at Jack, "Joyce will never believe this. Um, I'm Theresa. Nice to meet you." The girl looked around, clearly a bit nervous, she spotted someone and caught her breath before dashing to an area where they could not see her. Jack just wondered out and looked at the people she had noticed, it was a group of four boys, he was fairly sure they were actually the ones that had started the snowball fight earlier, now they just looked bored, but one of them was pointing to where Theresa had just hidden.

"They didn't see me did they?" She asked Jack, when he nodded she bit her lip for a second before opening her book to a random page. As she did that Jack saw one of the boys grab a handful of snow and a few small rocks. He started to make a snowball with it. "You should go" Theresa said, without looking up.

Jack just stood back, knowing this could get bad. After a few seconds the boys walked into the small area, one of them hung back a bit, but the others went right up to Theresa.

"Hey, dummy, what you reading?" One of them, a short boy with light brown hair and glasses said,

"Go away, recess is almost over and I want to finish this chapter" Was all Theresa said as she raised the book a bit more. At this, the three that had advanced chuckled at her, getting a glare in response.

"Whatever, you're as lame as ever" Another one said, he had very short brown hair and was a little taller then the first boy, "Hey, my sister told be that no one showed up to your birthday party last year, not even her and the other lame people you hang out with"

"You should really not listen to her, she lies all the time." Theresa mumbled, as she turned a page of her book.

"Learned that the hard way, didn't ya? Freak." The last one said, he was the tallest of the four boys and had dark blond hair, he was the one holding the snowball, and as he spoke he whipped it towards Theresa's head.

She raised the book to block it as the same time Jack called up some wind to set it off course, harmlessly hitting the wall behind her.

"Come on guys, let's go" The blond boy said, clearly upset the snowball hadn't hit it's target. The others were as well, it seemed as they teased him about it as they walked off.

Theresa lowered the book and raised her head to look at Jack, "Sorry" was all she said as she got up, just as the bell rung she walked out of the small area and towards one of the nearby doors, that already had kids lining up to go back inside.

So as I was drawing the comic, for which I posted an intro/first page, I realized that not only do I suck at drawing, when it comes to comics I have no clue how to do them in a good way. So, instead, i wrote out the story. It will probably have one or two more parts, which I'll upload in a day or two.

It is based slightly on my memories, but not much, nothing in this chapter happened the way I describe it, since, you know, Jack wasn't there. Also, for obvious reasons I'm changing the names of anyone in the story that is based off a real person.

Although I have never gotten hit with a snowball, with a rock in it, to the face... I have gotten hit with a snowball, with ice in it, to the face... wasn't fun having a teacher wipe up blood, coming from my nose, in the bathroom for that recess.

I've also gotten a rock launched at me from a sling shot... left a nice yellow bruise on my left side.  Twas also my birthday... lol.

Anywho... can't say I know what a rock to the face feels like, but I can make a healthy guess :(

Good chapter... and assuming this fic was based on something from your childhood, all I gotta say is... sorry that happened :(
